What Are the Presidents PhD Scholarships?

The Presidents PhD Scholarships are among the most prestigious and highly competitive fully funded doctoral scholarships offered by Imperial College London a world, class research university ranked in the top London and global Universities. This scholarship program seeks to recruit the best graduates and researchers worldwide to undertake research at doctoral, level (PhD) in any faculty or department at the College.

Every year, through the scheme, Imperial gives out about 50 scholarships to the brightest students, thus, enabling them to carry out a PhD research

project of their choice under the supervision of an expert, while they will be fully funded and supported both financially and academically.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

  • One Presidents PhD Scholarship funds are inclusive of all the costs related to the PhD studies (3.5 years):
  • Full Tuition Fees The entire PhD program is covered hence, you do not have to pay any tuition fees (or you get full tuition fees waiver) for up to 3.5 years.
  • A stipend of ยฃ26,500ย (2026-27 rate)ย per annum to assist with living costs

EligibilityTo be considered for this award, applicants should meet all of the criteria below:

Academic RequirementGood honours degree with first, class (or the equivalent) minimum.

As an alternative, a Master’s degree with distinction in a standalone program can be considered if the bachelor’s degree was not first, class.

These conditions restrict access to the award only to applicants with outstanding academic performance. However, a department might consider a candidate with high research potential even if the candidate does not meet all the requirements.

Open Globally An applicant can be from any country in the world, as there are no nationality limitations.

Only New Applicants The opportunity is open only to new doctoral applicants. Current doctoral students at Imperial are excluded.

Full or Partial Study Both full and part, time students can apply for the fellowship if their department supports the latter.

Imperial does not implement a distinct scholarship form. Rather, you submit a regular PhD application, and your department may nominate you for a scholarship. Nonetheless, a successful scholarship application should be accompanied by the following:
