The University of Cairo provides full funding for graduate scholarships,

which support students who want to complete their Master’s and PhD studies. The American University in Cairo (AUC) offers multiple fully funded graduate fellowships to international and African students. AUC fellowships provide various financial benefits, which include tuition payment and stipend support and insurance coverage and housing assistance and additional benefits. The different fellowship types establish specific rules about who can apply for the program and what benefits they will receive and when they should submit their applications.

The AUC Graduate Fellowships program provides competitive awards to students who achieve high academic standards. Graduate students at AUC can apply for institutional fellowships, which the university funds, or for externally sponsored and endowed fellowships, which depend on donor support.

The fellowships provide financial support through full funding or partial funding for all or specific expenses, which include the following:

The academic year 2026 to 2027 at AUC presents two distinct categories of graduate fellowships. The main categories include:

📍 A. International Graduate Fellowships

These fellowships grant financial support to international students who have qualified through their admission to AUC for master or doctoral programs. The scholarships evaluate academic performance but also take into account the applicant’s financial situation.

Key features:

Open to all nationalities (except as specifically noted).

Students must gain admission into AUC graduate programs.

The program requires students to maintain full-time student status.

The program allows students to study for up to five semesters with one summer session which needs semester-by-semester evaluation.

Some programs (e.g., Counseling Psychology) may extend up to seven semesters.

To renew their scholarships students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0.

The program may require students to complete assistantship work which consists of 12 hours every week.

The program includes coverage for tuition expenses and all associated fees together with a salary and health insurance and housing support or secondment services.

B. African Graduate Fellowship (Fully Funded)

The fellowship provides complete financial support to African students who are not from Egypt to study for their master’s degree at AUC. This fellowship represents one of the AUC 2026 scholarships. The

The program provides complete financial support because it pays for all expenses which include tuition expenses and stipend payments and all required fees and health insurance costs and housing assistance.

Who is eligible?

The applicant must possess African citizenship but needs to show proof that they are not from Egypt.

New graduate students must complete the application process and be accepted into a master’s program at AUC.

The applicant needs to fulfill AUC’s English proficiency requirements which include TOEFL and IELTS testing.

The applicant needs to show evidence of financial insecurity.

Continuing students must maintain GPA 3.2+/4.0.                                   

The program provides coverage for:

The program offers tuition support which covers up to nine credits that students take each semester.

The program provides students with a monthly stipend.

The program covers all student services and activities fees.

The program provides students with health insurance coverage.

The program provides students with either a housing allowance or accommodation expenses.

The program provides students with basic English skills support, which they will receive only if it becomes necessary.

🗓️ Application Deadline: The African Graduate Fellowship cycle has a common deadline of January 20 2026 although reports show different dates for the application period.

📍 C. University Fellowships

The award provides funding for one semester which supports students who have exceptional academic performance. The program requires students to renew their funding every semester. The program provides funding which covers tuition costs and stipend payments and all required fees and health insurance costs.

AUC lists many named or specialized fellowships — some open to all nationalities while others are restricted by field, nationality, or program, including:

The living stipend provides students with monthly funds to cover their expenses in Cairo.

The insurance package provides health coverage which includes medical services.

The housing arrangement offers students two options: they can choose between a cash allowance or AUC residences at the New Cairo campus.

The program covers students’ educational fees which support their academic work and extracurricular activities.
